Firelight by Sophie Jordan
A hidden truth.
Marked as special at an early age, Jacinda knows her every move is watched. But she longs for freedom to make her own choices. When she breaks the most sacred tenet among her kind, she nearly pays with her life. Until a beautiful stranger saves her. A stranger who was sent to hunt those like her. For Jacinda is a draki, a descendant of dragons whose greatest defense is her secret ability to shift into human form.
Forced to flee into the mortal world with her family, Jacinda struggles to adapt to her new surroundings. The only bright light is Will. Gorgeous, elusive Will who stirs her inner draki to life. Although she is irresistibly drawn to him, Jacinda knows Will’s dark secret: He and his family are hunters. She should avoid him at all costs. But her inner draki is slowly slipping away;if it dies she will be left as a human forever. She’ll do anything to prevent that. Even if it means getting closer to her most dangerous enemy.
Mythical powers and breathtaking romance ignite in this story of a girl who defies all expectations and whose love crosses an ancient divide.
Firelight by Sophie Jordan is amazing. If you haven’t read any dragon based paranormal novels, you need to start with this one. A new twist on forbidden love between the hunter and the hunted. The images in this novel are so vivid. Sophie’s writing style is life like and believable.
Do the Draki really exist? They could be lingering in the night sky!
Sophie’s main character, Jacinda is a strong female lead. She is confident and knows exactly what she wants; freedom. Jacinda behind the paranormal is just a typical girl who struggles with her family. She is a character you will connect with from page one. Sophie’s imagination is apparent in her writing. The way she describes Jacinda’s transformation into Draki is magic-like. Unlike many paranormal novels, the Draki use the human form to survive. Being human is not their natural form. All through out the novel Jacinda struggles with keeping her human mask on, but her emotions and feelings make it very difficult. Especially when she is around Will.
Will, an expert Draki hunter, has only seen Jacinda in her Draki form.
An addicting novel that keeps you on the edge of your seat. Jacinda’s struggle to stay human and not lose control keeps readers wondering “when will she finally break?”
Sophie built a world that is suffocating to a Draki, but what’s amazing is that readers will feel the suffocating setting as if they where Draki themselves living in such cruel circumstances.
There will be no mixed feelings towards any of the characters. Sophie has decided early on who is the true villain.
This is the start of a great trilogy. A heart throbbing love story that keeps getting complicated. A paranormal Romeo and Juliet.
