REQUIEM by Lauren Oliver

Release Date: March.5.2012

Publisher: HarperTeen

Previous Books: Delirium (Book 1) Pandemonium (Book 2)

Now an active member of the resistance, Lena has been transformed. The nascent rebellion that was under way in Pandemonium has ignited into an all-out revolution in Requiem, and Lena is at the center of the fight. Of Pandemonium, ALA Booklist noted that “like all successful second volumes, this expands the world and ups the stakes, setting us up for the big finale.”

After rescuing Julian from a death sentence, Lena and her friends fled to the Wilds. But the Wilds are no longer a safe haven—pockets of rebellion have opened throughout the country, and the government cannot deny the existence of Invalids. Regulators now infiltrate the borderlands to stamp out the rebels, and as Lena navigates the increasingly dangerous terrain, her best friend, Hana, lives a safe, loveless life in Portland as the fiancée of the young mayor. Requiem is told from both Lena’s and Hana’s points of view. The two girls live side by side in a world that divides them until, at last, their stories converge.

Not to be a creep, but I just had to reply to this. I feel the exact same way! I few pages before Alex was revealed it was kind of hinted at that he was going to be back. I saw it coming, but hoped that she wouldn’t introduce him until the third book, and would just let the second on have a happy ending. My plan was to finish Pandemonium and completely ignore that a that book even existed. That Lena and Julian ran off into the wilds and live happily eve after. But, of course all my hope and dreams where crushed.

Now clinical depressed 17 year old (but no longer as depressed as she was five minutes ago because someone in this world shares her feeling for an inanimate object, and people who don’t even exist.)

      • Allison says

I ammm totally team Alex and the whole way through the second book (yes i know the name but im afraid i’ll spell it wrong) i was waiting for him to come back and then when he does Lena is tottally breaking his heart cuz he catches her with Julian. I had a suspicion that the kid they were talking about who knew about Lena’s mom was Alex but i was shocked when he was there. I thought that they would meet up later at a homestead or something. Or they could have met up when Julian was reunited with Lena and she has to choose which to run to, but no, it has to be soooo dumb and have his heart break. I LIKE ALEX BETTER!!!

      • Jessa says

AAAAHH!! I cant believe it! Same here! You should have seen the freak out I had when I finished Pandemonium. I too wanted Lena and Julian to stay together, although Alex had to come back at some point. Still, I can’t imagine who she’ll end up with. I mean, Julian is so sweet and somehow innocent, but Alex has an irresistible charm. However, they have both changed since they were last together, and who knows what will happen?

An extremely excited 15 year old who lives her life through the books she reads.

  3. Anna says

What about Alex ??? I can’t believe he’s alive and so is her mother oh my god can’t wait for the final book I want it now! This is torture having to wait :'(

    • Book Worm says

I’m torn apart between Alex and Julian. They both grow on you. Oh Gosh! I NEED TO KNOW WHAT HAPPENS!! I think somethings wrong with Alex though. He has a number behind his ear. Remember? AND he’s angry at Lena. There is definitely something wrong. WHAT DID THE ZOMBIES DO TO ALEX?!!

      • Allison says

I will totally hate it if this is a Peeta and Tracker Jacker all over again. It’s not the same when they get changed….. I hope he’s not cured. But he sounded like he cared at the end so i dont think they cured him.

      • Kay says

Totally team Alex all the way. I agree that something seems a bit off with him, but Alex and Lena meeting was pure fate. Alex showed Lena the truth about love. He showed Lena the truth about herself, and he introduced her to so many new wonders. Lena and Julian were like “forced’ together, and if wasn’t for the plan, Lena and Julian would have never had a fling. And Julian always kept remind Lena of Alex, and Lena was really lonely and was in deep pain from Alex’s “death”, so I think Julian kind of filled that hole for her. Alex will always be Lena’s first love. I hope he remains her last love. TEAM ALEX FOREVER. Amazing job with the first two, can’t wait for the third!!!!!!!

  4. Book Worm says

Every time i saw Alex’s name on the page i would skip ahead and read that part only to find that Lena was just mourning for him. But then in the end…….. HE COMES BACK! I was so thrilled. But then again the book ends there. I can’t wait for Requiem!! Lauren Oliver is an outstanding writer!

  5. Laura Schecheter says

Lauren Schecheter….. I’m so glad you have your own publishing company!! I admire your dedication and your will, I mean if you were in the music business maybe you could rip somebody’s vocal cords out if you could, and call them your own!!

    Takes guts, girl.

  6. Lindsey says

Love the book. Love the cover. I’m Team Alex all the way! When I read the ending I started crying, right there in my room. I only started to cry when my screaming was finished. If u wanna know what i was screaming, it was along the lines of, “OMG!! WHY DO U END LIKE THIS!!” I have been waiting forever to hear when the next book comes out and cant wait til March! Live long and read Delirium!

  7. Laura Schecheter says

You have dirty business associates, or you are a book theiving soulless thief. I hope you take better care in the future who you think is our friend because they will turn around and gut you in the back while you think they are admiring you. Good luck in the future and don’t look behind you….they still might be there.

  8. Callie says

I just finished reading Pandemonium. I wanted to delay reading it as much as I can because Requiem won’t be out til next year but I couldn’t stop myself. I’ve always rooted for Lena & Alex since Delirium but for Pandemonium to end like that??Why??The ending broke my heart knowing Alex would be hurt seeing Lena with Julian. Why would Miss Lauren Oliver leave us tethering on the edge like that? March 2013 please come faster!!!

  9. Laura Schecheter says

Lauren Oliver….I hope you are doing well in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy. My prayers always have and will always be with you. God bless. Oh, and I can’t wait to see your next book! Your ideas are so original.
