Everybody knows Cate Cahill and her sisters are eccentric. Too pretty, too reclusive, and far too educated for their own good. But the truth is even worse: they’re witches. And if their secret is discovered by the priests of the Brotherhood, it would mean an asylum, a prison ship—or an early grave.

Before her mother died, Cate promised to protect her sisters. But with only six months left to choose between marriage and the Sisterhood, she might not be able to keep her word… especially after she finds her mother’s diary, uncovering a secret that could spell her family’s destruction. Desperate to find alternatives to their fate, Cate starts scouring banned books and questioning rebellious new friends, all while juggling tea parties, shocking marriage proposals, and a forbidden romance with the completely unsuitable Finn Belastra.

If what her mother wrote is true, the Cahill girls aren’t safe. Not from the Brotherhood, the Sisterhood—not even from each other.

Review:

Historical fiction with a paranormal twist is always a plus for any YA reader. If you loved ENTWINED by Heather Dixon you will fall in love with the characters in this book. Like Azalea (the main character in ENTWINED) Cate is the oldest of many sisters. Cate’s mom passed away, and Cate was left behind to protect her younger sisters. Living in a time where witch’s are damned upon by the brotherhood, its Cate’s job to protect her families secret, a promise she made her mom on her death bed.

Her mom taught her what she can, but Cate was also taught that magic is dangerous, especially when used for the wrong reasons. as she approaches her upcoming birthday she must make a decision between the sisterhood and protecting her sisters, or marrying the man she loves and breaking her promise to her mother.

As the story evolves Cate discovers that being one of three sister witches is very unlikely, and a prophesy makes its self present in her moms diary.

Jessica developed a beautiful tale. This book relates to sisters and their unique bond. Sisters love each other but the truth is they never stop bickering, and thats what makes their love stronger. Cate and her sisters love for one another is tested in this book, and a choice must be made.

This novel is full of magic, romance, and is poisoned by jealousy, one that will cause Cate to choose one of two fates.
